چکیده

In this report, we present a fast switching network protocol for a distributed switching two-way interactive CATV system. The backbone network protocol takes advantage of the tree topology of the CATV network to reduce the processing time and memory requirements at the intermediate nodes. Backbone virtual circuit switching is assumed. The concept of fixed hierarchical logical channel number is suggested since it will provide for fast switching at the network layer within the intermediate nodes along with a node address or identifier. Discussion of the directory database problem and the different methods for locating a specific user are presented. A modified version of High-level Data Link Control is suggested for the local access protocol, incorporating the functions of call set-up and clearing at the link level. PACS numbers: 47.10.

TCP behavior over HFC cable modem access networks

® This work has been partially funded through a research course release program from the College of Business Abstract: Hybrid Fiber-Coax based CATV networks has the potential for two-way data services. Such network providers are presently re-inventing the CATV network to provide Internet access. This paper presents a simulation study of the dynamic behavior of TCP over HFC cable modem networks....

Design of Out-of-Band Protocols to Transmit UHDTV Contents in the CATV Network

The goal of an UHDTV is to broadcast digital video contents which is 16 times the pixel resolution of HDTV. As the resolution is increased, the UHDTV requires a transmission technology to support very high data transfer rate. In this paper, we propose two out-of-band protocols to transmit UHDTV contents in a CATV network: an OOB-based protocol and a DSG-based protocol. The former may be a short...

Long Distance Signal Transmission in CATV Network Using Distributed Raman Amplification

Distributed Raman amplification based long distance fiber optic transmission systems have been widely deployed for telecommunication applications. Several scattering effects and multiple reflections in a field-installed fibers posed stringent conditions for analog transmission for conventional CATV applications. However, recent advances in grating technology and the development of high-power di...

Prefetch Agent: Virtual Internet Based on CATV

Internet provides an interactive mode for information retrieval. But its bandwidth is narrow. TV can provide broadband service. Usually, it is not interactive. In China, the CATV (CAble TeleVision) is very popular and is mainly running in one-way mode. It is expensive to rebuild the CATV from one-way to two-way. Using Prefetch System, we can achieve the virtual Internet and virtual two-way comm...
